If I could give less than one star I would. Personally, I would stay away from Patriot Mortgage and specifically Peter Berryman. I am currently in process of purchasing my first home and my realtor recommended Peter Berryman since we didn’t have anyone in mind. At first he was ok, he appeared to be working with you. If you have to use this company, make sure you have everything in email to have a clear agreement so there wouldn't be any changes 5 days prior to closing. There were some perceived obstacles on his end while we were working with him that seemed to justify him giving us worse and wore rates and increasingly higher monthly payments, less than a week prior to closing the final estimate for the loan was over $800 than the original estimate and I was told that was the best we were going to get. In addition to this exorbitant increase from the original pricing of the loan I was also told they were not going to be able to close on time even though they had over a month and a half to get their act together and I was constantly given assurances that it would be fine and that we could wait. At this point I was fed up to the point that I switched brokers 5 days before I was scheduled to close and the new mortgage company was able to get me drastically better rates and prices as well as first home buyer credits I was told by Peter that I did not qualify for, and the new mortgage broker was able to get us to the closing table within a week when this incompetent broker was unable to do it in 5. Lack of communication is the biggest detriment to this company because despite numerous attempts to reach out my inquiries were never addressed unless I went in office to speak with Peter Berryman face to face. Additionally, while he was giving me empty promise after empty promise, his processor Steve replied within minutes and was very realistic and actually took the time to explain things. It’s clear that Peters communication skills with his processor is just as bad as his communication with his clients. If you want someone to ignore all of your needs and screw you over royally, patriot mortgage is the company for you. If you want to actually get through the mortgage process without a panic attack then go with literally anyone else even the online services can do better and have better customer service. Patriot mortgage and specifically Peter Berryman made the home buying process a nightmare and it was one empty promise after another with no accountability and honestly shady and unethical. Peter Berryman lacks the integrity and is only looking after making money not caring if he screws over his clients. Additionally, he ran our credit a total of 5 times throughout the process, making our credit worse and worse to make us qualify only for worse rates. Avoid this guy at all costs.
