Great place to visit and learn about logging and the different engines that service the logging industry. Beautiful scenery on the ride and on the journey to the train station. The trip to Bald Knob was fantastic. Josh our host for this ride was knowledgeable, entertaining and passionate. He explained the workings of the train, the history of the logging on the mountain and company town of Cass. They have steam engines manufactured by Shay, Heisler and Climax working on the tours. If you want to see the Whittaker logging camp take the Whittaker ride. The bald knob ride does stop at Whittaker, and they will let you off, but you won't have much time to explore. If you want pictures of the engines on the other tours go early. The bald knob excursion is finished at 5:00. The crew is ready to go home after an exhausting day and are efficient at going to the engine shed when finished. This area is off limits. I believe they will escort you there in the morning. One last side note, if you dress in long pants and wear closed toe shoes and are polite with your request to the engineer he might let you ride in the cab. This a working train so you will be covered in soot at the end of the ride. I think Josh said that the fireman shovels several tons of coal into engine on each trip up and down the mountain. I will be back.

This was a very lovely ride through the mountains,Josh was very helpful on explaining the history. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful, lunch was provided on the train. A lot of beautiful sights and wildlife. If you're visiting West Virginia and go to Bald knob, it's well worth the money
